ELAC Snaps Four-Game Slide, Beats Bakersfield 44-28

Having been outscored 91-19 in the past two games, East Los Angeles College needed a win against the Bakersfield College Renegades in order to keep their bowl eligibility (minimum five wins) alive. Off the strength of five Renegade turnovers and the play of Huskies QB Rudy Garcia, ELAC outpaced the 'Gades 44-28 for their third win. Robledo would complete 20 of 29 passes for 229 yards and four total touchdowns (two pass, two run) with two interceptions. 

The Huskies started fast - on Bakersfield's offensive third play to start the game, Braden Wingle threw a sideline pass that was intercepted by Kirshawn Snelson and returned 31 yards for the Huskies' first touchdown (PAT missed). ELAC would score the game's first 20 points before the Renegades would respond in the 2nd quarter with their first touchdown - a five-yard run by Isaiah Martin. In fact, Bakersfield would score three touchdowns in the quarter to close within six with four minutes left in the half. But Garcia capped a late scoring drive with a 27-yard touchdown strike to Daniel Munguia (five total receptions for 84 yards) to push the Huskies into halftime with a 34-21 lead.

In the third quarter, Munguia would find the end zone again via a four-yard touchdown run to push the Husky lead back to 20. The Renegades would respond on the ensuing drive, capped with an Isaiah Martin 10-yard touchdown run. The Huskies would then add a Juan Rangel 38-yard field goal for a 44-28 lead. ELAC would hold on through the fourth quarter thanks to the defense forcing a three-and-out, a turnover on downs near their endzone (Renegades received dropped a potential TD pass on fourth down), and Snelson's second interception.

HUSKY BITS

• ELAC forced five turnovers (three interceptions, two fumble recoveries) while Bakersfield forced three (two interceptions, one fumble recovery).
• Robledo threw for 229, which is the most amount of passing yards any Husky QB has had since the bye week.
• Daniel Robledo had a sack (3) and two tackles for loss.
• One play before Snelson's second interception (late in the fourth quarter), Georgia native Emmanuel Cater registered a sack (2.5 sacks on the season).
• ELAC RB Darrion Turner got the start tonight - he would have six rushes for 36 yards.
