ELAC men’s soccer and Chaffey ties 3-3

MONTEREY PARK, CA — The East Los Angeles College men’s soccer team led 3-2 at the half vs. Chaffey College then settled for a 3-3 tie in South Coast Conference North Division play. The Huskies lost a non-conference crossover game at Cerritos College (7-5-4) on Tuesday.

It was the seventh time this season that the Huskies scored first and tied (five times) or lost (twice). ELAC stopped its two-game skid and stands 2-9-6 overall and remains winless in the SCC North at 0-4-1. Chaffey (7-6-2, 1-3-1) avoided the SCC North cellar.

Freshman midfielder Rigoberto Padilla (Locke High School) scored his first goal of the season for ELAC, assisted by sophomore midfielder Martin Oregel. Padilla assisted ELAC’s third goal scored by freshman defender Sergio Chaidez (Elizabeth Learning Center HS).

Husky sophomore forward Ernesto Rubalcaba (Montebello HS) scored ELAC’s first goal assisted from sophomore midfielder Jorge Chavez (Cathedral HS). The Huskies led 3-2 at the half.

Chaffey scored the equalizer in the 78th minute from sophomore forward Johnathan Umana (sophomore forward Juan Nunez assist). Umana scored twice for the Panthers.

ELAC put forward 11 shots on goal to Chaffey’s eight. Husky freshman goalkeeper Joshua Moreno (Montebello HS) saved five goals.

Cerritos scored three first half goals within 12 minutes in the 3-0 against ELAC. ELAC had a four-man spread defending the goal during this time, which the Falcons took advantage of by faking between two Huskies thereby creating a hole to score easily.

Cerritos’ Edwin Corona (Cathedral HS) scored two of the Falcon goals, the first in minute 12 and again in the 28th minute.

Husky freshman goalkeeper David Galvan (Elizabeth Learning Center HS) had five saves.

ELAC took 10 shots, three from sophomore forward Hector Reyes (Los Angeles HS), two each from Chavez and freshman defender Salvador Ramirez Barbosa (Locke HS) and one apiece from Padilla, Rubalcaba and freshman midfielder Luis Alvarado (Elizabeth Learning Center HS).

The Huskies had five shots of goal, two from Reyes and one each from Padilla, Ramirez Barbosa and freshman midfielder Andres Martinez (Santiago, Chile / Instituto Tabancura).

Ramirez Barbosa received a red card in the 90th minute.

The Huskies took six corner shots in the second half, but did not take advantage.
