The Huskies improve to 1-3-3 overall in non-conference play. Mira Costa falls to 0-4-2.

“The team worked faithful to be proactive and put it to the game. They stuck to the game plan,” said ELAC Assistant Coach Ricardo “Kike” (pr. Ki-keh) Raygoza. “We improved our lack of experience to finish this game and can continue to win as long as we continue to play what we practice and not shy away.”

The Huskies opened the score with a goal in the 28th minute from sophomore defender Javier “Javi” Gutierrez who sent a perfect floater (assist by sophomore midfielder Jorge Chavez, Cathedral HS) over the Mira Costa freshman goalkeeper Luis Briseno.

Also in the first half, ELAC freshman midfielder Luis Alvarado (Elizabeth Learning Center) scored the Huskies’ second goal, a cross, assisted by Chavez.

In the second half, Mira Costa sophomore midfielder Yan Guimaraes Pereira De Moraes, a transfer from Salvador, Brazil / Colegio Antonio Vietra, was awarded a penalty kick.

ELAC freshman goalkeeper Joshua Moreno (Montebello HS) blocked the attempt. Moreno recorded six saves in the shut out win.

Also one sot attempt each from Chavez and freshman midfielder Adriel Dominguez (Montebello HS).

The Huskies had four shots on goal, two from Gutierrez and one each from Alvarez and Alvarado. Mira Costa had six shots on goal, two from Pereira De Moraes.

“This was the first win of the season and it feels really good,” said Gutierrez. “On Monday, we start again, to prepare for each game as they come.”
