ELAC Men's Soccer Rally Falls Short at Orange Coast College

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. — The No. 24-Southern California ranked (Statewide Soccer Coaches Poll) East Los Angeles College men's soccer team's second half rally fell short losing 4-2 to No. 23 Orange Coast College.

The non-conference loss dropped the Huskies to 0-3 overall and still looking for its first win. OCC improves to 2-2 overall. The Huskies play at Norco College (3-0) on Friday at 4 p.m. and host Southwestern College (0-5) on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Huskies fell behind 2-0 in the first period. OCC sophomore forward Nicholas Cardenas (Fountain Valley High School) worked in a goal in the 32nd minute. Freshman forward Achref Beldi (IBN, Qatar) added a goal for OCC in the 42nd minute. Freshman forward Tien Cao (College and Career Preparatory Academy) assisted both goals.

OCC scored a minute into the second period on a Cardenas goal (assist Beldi) and led 3-0. The Huskies scored on the subsequent possession, a blast form Pablo Macedo Nahashique (Eja, Brazil) on an assist from freshman Andres Aceves (Buena Park HS). It was Nahashique's second goal of the season and Aceves' second assist in two straight games.

The Huskies added another goal in the 89th minute from freshman Denilson Rivera (Huntington Park HS). The Huskies were outshot 18-10.

ELAC freshman goalkeeper Antonio Sanchez (Chula Vista HS) had 10 saves. Freshman Thiago Lino da Costa had two saves for OCC.

The Huskies lost at Santiago Canyon College, 3-1, last Saturday. ELAC's lone goal was in the 60th minute when freshman Alexis Arroyo scored from a cross by Aceves (Maywood Academy).
