East Los Angeles College men's soccer falls to No. 1 Cerritos College

NORWALK, Calif. — The East Los Angeles College Huskies men’s soccer team went up against the No. 1-ranked team in the nation and fell hard in road match against Cerritos College.

ELAC was down 2-0 at the half in the South Coast Conference crossover loss. ELAC produced balanced attacks and a defense that was pretty much on point in the opening half.

Cerritos, however, scored in the 19th minute when freshman forward Kevin Diaz flicked the ball to the corner of the net on an assist from sophomore midfielder Oscar Penate who was in front of the goal line.

Cerritos added a goal in the 30th minute when freshman forward Bryan Villalobos (Salesian HS) scored on a pass in the box from freshman forward Kevin Diaz.

The Huskies were outshot in the half 7-4. ELAC freshman goalkeeper Horacio Aguirre (Maywood Academy HS) had two of his seven saves in the first half.

In the second half, the Huskies defense fell apart, which Cerritos took advantage with a burst of six straight goals in 20 minutes.

The Huskies avoided a shutout loss with a goal in the 88th minute when freshman Juan Polina (Maywood Academy High School) took an assist from freshman Jowad Abraham (Paramount HS) in traffic and found the net with a strong blast.
