Men’s cross country is seventh at CSUF

FULLERTON, CA — The East Los Angeles College men’s cross country Huskies edged the Sea Beggars of Providence Christian College for seventh place at the Cal State Fullerton Titan Invitational.

Riverside City College won the Non-NCAA Division I Schools Division from a field of four NAIA colleges/universities and four community colleges that included ELAC.

For eight Huskies, it was ELAC’s second competition this year running a 5-mile course. All eight of these Huskies ran personal records, peaking at the right time of the season in their final tune-up before the South Coast Conference Cross Country Championships.

Freshman Martin Perez (Norwalk High School), ELAC’s No. 1 runner, finished in 26:41.6 minutes, over a minute faster than his previous best 5-mile run.

Freshman Allen Au Yeung (San Gabriel HS) clocked in as ELAC’s No. 2 runner this meet in 28:05.3 36, with a personal 5-mile best of more than two minutes faster.

Freshman Raymond Rascon (Pioneer HS) ran 28:23.1, trimming 2:22.39 minutes off his previous best.

Freshmen Victor Jauregui’s (Montebello HS) 28:30.5 finish is almost 2 1/2 minutes faster than earlier in the season.

Freshman David Torres (Schurr HS) edged Orange Coast freshman Colin Takushi, 29:20.6 to 29:22.1. Torres also ran more than two minutes faster than his previous best 5-miler.

Non-Husky scorers included freshman Nathan Rangel (Montebello HS) who ran his first 5-mile race in 30:35.53. Freshman Anthony Jovel (Bell Gardens HS) finished in 31:20.17, more than 1 1/2 minutes faster than his previous best.

Sophomore Rene Flores (Garfield HS) ran 32:25.8, also more than two minutes faster than before. Freshmen Pablo Hernandez’s (Downtown Magnets HS) 32:26.2 finish is a 5-mile personal best by more than three minutes.

Freshman Matthew Ruiz’s (Bell Gardens HS) 35:10.3 finish is more than 4 1/2 minutes faster than his previous best 5-mile time. Ruiz crossed the finish line just ahead of sophomore Peter Gomez of San Diego Christian College.
