ELAC men’s cross country run PR’s
SAN BERNARDINO, CA — Each of the East Los Angeles College men’s cross country team Huskies individually ran their fastest times of the season and as a result placed seventh at the San Bernardino Valley College Invitational in a field that included three statewide ranked teams.
No. 4-statewide ranked San Bernardino placed first, No. 6 Glendale took second, No. 9 Cerritos placed third.
ELAC gained time on the ranked teams. Since the season opening SoCal Preview meet, the Huskies improved an average of one minute and six seconds faster per-man, a better improvement than the three ranked teams.
Freshman Martin Perez (Norwalk High School) finished in 22:06.5, 0:34.55 seconds faster than his previous best time.
Freshman Victor Jauregui (Montebello HS) finished in 22:46.2, more than a minute faster than his previous season best. He sprinted to the finish line next to San Diego City College freshman Ryan Velasquez for 50-meters. Jauregui edged Velasquez by 4/100’s of a second.
Freshmen Allen Au Yeyng (San Gabriel HS) ran 22:55.1, almost a minute and a half faster than his previous personal best. Freshman Raymond Rascon (Pioneer HS) finished in 23:09.4, also a personal record.
ELAC freshman Nathan Rangel (Montebello HS) closed out the scoring for the Huskies with a personal record of 23:35.5. Jonathan Pedroza (Garfield HS) clocked in at 23:39.7, 01:46 faster than his season best time.
Two Huskies season-best times broke the 25 and 26-minute marks for the first time this season.
Freshman Anthony Jovel (Bell Gardens HS) broke the 25-minute mark and finished in 24:45.3, knocking off more than two minutes from his previous fast time. Sophomore Rene Flores (Garfield HS) broke the 26-minute mark with a personal-best time of 25:50.4.
Freshman Pablo Hernandez (Downtown Magnets HS) ran 27:30.0, almost a minute faster than his previous best finish. Freshman Matthew Ruiz (Bell Gardens HS) ran a season’s best time of 29:34.3.
The Huskies have a bye next weekend and next compete in the CSU Fullerton Titan Invitational Friday, Oct. 21, TBA, at the Titan Track Complex.
