The East Los Angeles College softball team's win streak now totals seven games with a four-game sweep at Ventura College's Spring Tournament this past weekend. It is the longest win-streak since the 2013-14 team won nine straight, which was the last time ELAC made the playoffs and won the SCC championship.

At Ventura, ELAC upset Moorpark College 4-3 and blanked Hartnell College 7-0 yesterday. The Huskies then won both games today via mercy rule: the first was 10-2 against Glendale Community College, followed by a 13-0 shutout against Victor Valley.

The win streak, which includes two shutouts, has carried the Huskies to a 9-1 record during the month of March - a stark turnaround from the team's struggles in February. The Huskies have outscored their opponents 85-22 during the streak.

Noted contributors powering the Huskies' hot March include:

*Freshman designated player Melanie Torres, with 11 hits and 10 RBIs.

*First baseman Puatausaga Johnson with 10 hits and two RBIs.

*Third baseman Jennifer Rivera with nine hits and four RBIs.

*Pitcher Serena Lopez with five wins with 19 strikeouts.

*Sophomore pitcher Majisty Shomo tossed three wins and 11 strikeouts.

ELAC improves to 10-9 overall and is 5-5 in the South Coast Conference North Division, a half game out of second place. They have moved into contention for a playoff spot. With the streak, the Huskies drastically improved play comes at the right time of their season with two conference games next week and eight in April.

ELAC hosts No. 2-state ranked Mt. San Antonio College (19-3, 12-0) in an SCC North game on Tuesday at 5 p.m. Then on Thursday at 3 p.m. the Huskies are at home again to face Cerritos College (11-12, 6-6) in an SCC crossover which will count in the standings for both teams.
