Husky Pitcher is Perfect

Perfection. Defined as "the condition, state, or quality of being free or as free as possible from all flaws or defects."

In baseball and softball terms, perfection is a pitcher taking the mound and winning a game, by allowing no base runners to the opponent. 3 up and 3 down every inning. One of the rarest things in both sports.

Luckily for the ELAC Husky Softball team, Pitcher Amaya Zaldivar is one of those rare pitchers.

On Wednesday March 8th, Husky Coach Erika Blanco handed the ball to Zaldivar and the freshman right hander delivered with shutting down the visiting Compton Tartars 10-0 in a five inning victory.

Zaldivar was even better then that. She was perfect. 5 innings, 15 up and 15 down. She threw 56 pitches in the five innings, 41 for strikes and struck out six Tartars.

Coach Blanco summed it up this way "Amaya did a great job getting ahead of the batters and commanding the strike zone.  She had good command of the corners.  Solid defense and a great job by Ariana Cobian behind the plate contributed to Amaya's perfect  game.  Natalie Cordova made a diving catch in the 3rd inning that would have been the first hit of the game.  Great team effort"

As if knowing their starter was on, the Husky batters went to work early to score some runs for Amaya. The Huskies scored three runs in the first inning as Nathalie Cordova scored on a bunt by Priscilla Hernandez. Hernandez and Irene Huziar would score on a double from Emilia Corona.

The Huskies added three more in the 2nd inning as Hernandez added an RBI single to score the 6th run. Two more runs came in the 3rd inning as Darla Sandoval doubled to knock in Corona and Cordova singled to score Sandoval. Corona would knock in Hernandez in the 4th and a base hit from Arianna Cobian would finish the scoring for the Huskies.

Cordova and Hernandez would finish with 2 RBIs each while Corona added 3 RBIs on the day.

The day belonged to Zaldivar though who after finishing the 5th inning with 2 groundouts and a strikeout was greeted by her catcher Cobain before the entire team joined them in celebration.

Congratulations to Amaya Zaldivar on her perfect game. Perhaps when you look up the definition of perfection in the dictionary in the future, youll see a picture of Amaya right next to it.
