No. 9 ELAC Falls to No. 7 City College of San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, CA —  The No. 9 state-ranked East Los Angeles College women’s basketball lost to No. 7 City College of San Francisco in the semifinals of the Golden Gate Classic Tournament.

The Lady Huskies fall to 7-4 overall. Their losses are to Top-7 teams. San Francisco improves to 11-1.

The Lady Huskies meet No. 16 Los Angeles Valley College (9-6) in the Third Place Game tomorrow at 1 p.m. San Francisco meets No. 1 Sierra College (11-0) for the tourney title at 3 p.m.

In the 76-66 loss today, “The game was much closer than the score,” said ELAC Head Coach Bruce Turner. “We came out slow and got in a big hole in the first half then got it back to six points during the second half.”

“The girls’ effort was outstanding,” said Turner.

ELAC was behind 19-11 after the opening quarter and in double digits for most of the second quarter. San Francisco led 40-22 at the break. A second half hard-fought rally fell short in front of the vocal home crowd at the Wellness Center at City College of San Francisco.

Sophomore forward Dominique Godbolt (Fairfax High School) had her ninth double double in 11 games for the Huskies with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore forward Stevi Hall (PA / Harrisburg HS), who averages two points per game, scored a season high 19 points. She finished with three rebounds.
