Lady Huskies Take Consolation Game with 96-53 Win

MONTEREY PARK, CA — The No. 10 state-ranked women's basketball team won the Consolation Championship of the Susan and Dan Okawa Husky Classic with a 96-53 win over LA Harbor College (10-11).

Freshman forward Dominique Godbolt (Fairfax High School) and sophomore forward Monica Garcia (Garfield HS) were each named to their fifth straight All-Tournament Team. ELAC has played in five tournaments this season.

Godbolt scored 46 tournament points, had 36 rebounds and two blocked shots. Garcia scored 40 total points, had 25 rebounds, 11 assists and two blocked shots.

Also leading the Huskies in the tournament were freshman guard Jaelynn Curley (Ganado, AZ / Ganado HS) who recorded 47 tourney points, 11 total rebounds and six steals. Equally impressive was freshman forward Mercedes Ortiz who scored 44 tournament points, had 12 total rebounds and eight assists.

Guard Kimberly Peraza, who averaged 3.9 points-per-game entering the Husky Classic, scored 40 total tournament points.

The first quarter was close with five lead changes and five ties. Harbor scored its biggest lead 9-5 with 2:59 remaining in the period. ELAC then closed the quarter with a 10-2 run and led 15-11 entering the second quarter. The Lady Huskies led at the half 49-27 and 70-42 after three quarters.

For the second straight game, five Lady Huskies scored in double figures.

Curley scored a game-high 23 points and had four assists and two steals. Ortiz came off the bench and scored a season-high 21 points. She scored 16 points after three quarters, which equaled her previous season-high total while then shooting a hot 88 percent (7-of-8) of her two-point shot attempts.

Godbolt scored her 11th double double of the season and scored 14 points and had 16 rebounds. She averages 13.8 rebounds on the year, second-best in the state. Garcia scored 10 points and had 10 rebounds. It was her eighth double double of the season. Garcia had a game-high seven steals and stole the ball twice.

Freshman guard Jennifer Pool (Legacy HS) rounded out the ELAC double digit scoring. She scored 10 points and finished with eight rebounds, three assists and four steals. Hall scored six points, brought down six rebounds and had five assists. Sophomore forward Stevi Hall (Harrisburg, PA / Harrisburg HS) scored six points, finished with six rebounds and had five assists.

Harbor sophomore Christian Brown, who was also named to the All-Tournament Team, scored eight points, had seven rebounds and three steals. Harbor’s Kristy Takahashi scored 13 points, had five rebounds and four steals. Harbor’s Monique Garrett also scored in double figures with 10 points.

ELAC closes out its non-conference schedule with three South Coast Conference crossover games in the first two weeks of January. The Huskies (10-5) host No. 15 El Camino College (10-5) on Tuesday Jan. 5 at 6 p.m. in the South Gym’s “E”-rena.
