ELAC women’s basketball gets an 87-64 win over El Camino College

CULVER CITY, Calif.No. 8-ranked East Los Angeles College defeated No. 12 El Camino College 87-64 in the semifinals of The Wild West Shootout in “The Den” at West Los Angeles College.

The Lady Huskies, 4-1 overall, advance to the tourney championship game against another South Region ranked team, No. 14 West Los Angeles College (3-2).

Against El Camino, ELAC opened with a 21-10 first quarter lead. At the 3:38 mark, the Lady Huskies went on a 16-0 run for 5 1/2 minutes and led 27-10 with 8:10 left in the half on a jump shot by freshman forward Jadis Watson (Lancaster HS).

The Huskies enjoyed a double-digit lead until 2:27 in the half when West L.A. pulled within 33-25. Watson followed with a layup and ELAC led in double digits for the remainder of the game.

PAW TRACKS

Three Lady Huskies scored in double figures. ELAC got a gem out of sophomore guard Jaelynn Curley (AZ / Ganado HS) with 22 points, 18 from downtown beyond the arc. Curley averages three 3-pointers per game from 7.8 attempts, which is 8th best average in the state from more than 900 women. Freshman guard Adriana Gonzalez (St. Paul HS) scored 14 points with 12 from 3-point baskets. Watson scored 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting (74 percent).

With an all-around effort on defense, 11 of 12 Huskies totaled 34 rebounds led by freshman forward Zemeris Wallace (Lancaster HS) who had a team-high six, three from the offensive boards.

ELAC totaled 21 assists, eight more than West Los Angeles. Curley and sophomore guard Dominique Godbolt (Fairfax HS) had four each. ELAC sophomore guard Jennifer Pool (Legacy HS) had six steals.

ELAC head coach Bruce Turner is making it a habit of playing his entire roster in each game. “They are all expected to give it their (all) during each game,” said Turner. “While there are definite leaders on the team, they all step up at one point or another.”

Tomorrow’s title match-up vs. West L.A. is at 3 p.m.
