East Los Angeles College wrestlers lose 32-17 to powerhouse West Hills College
LEMOORE, Calif. — The improved East Los Angeles College Huskies wrestling team lost 32-17 to powerhouse West Hills College Lemoore at the West Hills Duals in the Huskies second match tonight.
125-pound weight class sophomore Martin Gevorkian (Downey High School) lost his first match of the season in this weight division, a 10-3 decision to freshman John Sosa. Gevorkian drops to 3-4 overall. West Hills led 3-0 over ELAC.
133-pound freshman Erik Echeverri (Montclair HS) lost his first match of the season in this weight division by fall to freshman Salvador Velasco. West Hills led 9-0.
141-pound freshman Jonathan Flores (Bell HS) lost his first match of the season in this weight class as well, by fall to Nicholas Walker. Flores falls to 3-4 overall. West Hills led 15-0.
149-pound sophomore Michael Estrada (John Glenn HS) won by fall over sophomore Jose Paez. Estrada raised his record to 5-2. The Huskies closed the gap to 9 points, down 15-6.
157-pound sophomore Ahmad Shalabi (Mendez HS) lost his first match of the season. He came up on the short end of a major decision losing to freshman Joe Romero. Shalabi stands at 2-1 overall. West Hills led 19-6.
165-pound sophomore Rodrigo Magallon (Bell HS) lost by fall and drops to 3-4 this season. West Hills led 25-6.
174-pound sophomore Gabe Rodriguez wrestling in a lower weight division won a 19-4 technical fall over freshman Noah Collazo. Rodriguez improves to 6-1 overall. West Hills led 25-11.
184-pound freshman Emmanuel Zepeda (Fremont HS) wrestling up a division lost by major decision. Zepeda falls to 5-2. West Hills led 29-11.
197-pound sophomore Ricardo Cortez (Warren HS) was in a close battle for two quarters, tied 0-0 after one period and down 3-2 after the second. West Hills freshman Juan Panduro defeated Cortez by a 9-3 decision. Cortez falls to 2-5 for the season. West Hills led 32-11.
285-pound heavyweight class sophomore Efren Velez (Schurr HS) upset freshman Patrick Slatic with his second pin of the season. Velez improves to 3-4 on the year. ELAC scored six points but lost 32-17.
The Huskies compete in the 18-team West Hills Tournament tomorrow all day beginning at 9 a.m.
