East Los Angeles College Wrestling has competed in two tournaments and a tri-meet so far this season. They'll be making their home debut tomorrow here as they take on the Renegades of Bakersfield College, thus we check in with the team to review how they've fared so far in the early going.

Their most recent tournament was this past weekend at The Golden Eagle Wrestling Tournament at West Hills College in Lemoore. With a 32-man bracket, the Huskies had four seeds and finished with one placer: Joshua Padilla (149 lbs).

  • He had a strong showing, finishing seventh. He won his first match 6-5, then lost in the quarterfinals and narrowly lost out on third place in the consolation bracket. He won the 7/8 bracket placer match.
  • Frosh Aiden Thome (133 lbs) lost his first match to Rio, then earned a Tech Fall against Lassen 20-4, and then lost to Bakersfield in his third match.
  • Soph (and 2021 State placer) Troy Garza (184 lbs) entered as the #2 seed. He won his forst match and forfeited in the quarterfinals.
  • Soph (2021 State placer) Devin Peries (197 lbs) entered as the #4 seed. He lost his first and last matches and won his second and third matches to go 2-2.
  • Frosh Steven Ceja entered as the #7 seed. He won his first match by pinfall over Cerritos' Elijah Ocampo.

They also competed in the Sac City Tournament back on the weekend of Sept 16-17. The tournament unfortunately was cut very short by power failure, but the Huskies were able to get in a few matches. Thorme looked good in his limited action, going 2-0. Padilla went 2-2.

Tomorrow's match vs Bakersfield starts at 6pm in the E1 Men's Gym. Free admission.
