ELAC women’s soccer wins and ties on the road

 VENTURA, Calif. - mdashThe East Los Angeles College Huskies women’s soccer team tied Ventura College 1-1 at the Sportsplex tonight after winning 1-0 at Los Angeles Harbor last week.

The Huskies improve to 1-2-3 overall, Ventura and Harbor fall to 1-4-3 and 1-2-2, respectively.

At Ventura, the Cougars scored first in the 12th minute when sophomore forward Paulina Aldrete (Oxnard High School) scored on a cross from sophomore midfielder (assist) Audrey Castillo (Pacifica HS).

In spite of being outshot 11-3 in the first half and 3-0 in the opening minutes of the second, ELAC fought back and scored the equalizer in the 53rd minute on a goal scored on a breakaway from freshman forward Perla Navarro (Fremont HS).

The Huskies kept the momentum on defense while being outshot 23-7 in total. The ELAC defense won the game shutting down 11 of Ventura’s scoring chances while ELAC sophomore goalkeeper Adriana Huerta (South East HS) saved 11 shots.

At Harbor last week at the Harbor Sports Center’s Multipurpose Sports Field, Navarro scored in the first half but no time was reported. The Huskies had seven shots on goal. Harbor sophomore goalkeeper Gicelle Magdaleno had six saves. No other information was reported.

The Huskies hold a 2-1-1 edge over powerhouse Ventura in the last four years and 4-1-1 against Harbor during the same year.

In a big game next Wednesday, the Huskies host Rio Hondo College (3-0-3) in the South Coast Conference opener for both teams. Rio Hondo is No. 14-ranked in this week's United Soccer Coaches Association poll.
