Women’s Track & Field results at Cerritos

NORWALK, CA — The East Los Angeles College women’s track & field team competed with a short team and had some season best results at the Cerritos College Invitational today.

Freshman Estrella Bautista (South East High School) ran to two personal records in two events.

Bautista ran a personal record and placed third in the in her 800-meter run heat.

Bautista edged Maria Martinez of Santa Monica College and Kaylee Seekon of San Diego Mesa College at the finish line.

In the 1500 run, Bautista sprinted to the finish line to her fastest time this season.

She edged freshman Katherine Bates of Cerritos College for sixth place by four one hundredth’s in the event’s second heat. Junior Svetlana Shak of Cal St. Los Angeles placed eighth.

Freshman Olivia Medrano (Schurr HS) placed fourth in the second heat of the women's hammer throw. She defeated China Garcia of San Diego Mesa College who took fifth.

Medrano moved ahead of Garcia in the Southern California Top-100 Rankings for the hammer throw.

Medrano moves up to the No. 33 throw in Southern California; Garcia drops to No. 38.

In the women’s discus, Medrano placed ahead of junior Karina Tran of Cal St. Los Angeles. Medrano threw almost 5 1/2 feet farther.

The Huskies penultimate meet of the season is at Azusa Pacific University in the Bryan Clay Invite on Friday, April 14 beginning at 10 a.m.
