Women’s track & field moves on to SoCal

TORRANCE, CA — The East Los Angeles College women’s track & field team edged Pasadena City College by four points for fourth place in the South Coast Conference Championships at El Camino College.

Freshman Estrella Bautista (South East High School) placed third in the 10,000-meter long distance run with a personal record.

It was first Top-Three finish for the Huskies in three seasons.

As a result, Bautista qualifies for the SoCal Championships to be held at Cerritos College, date and time to be determined.

Bautista placed 7th in the 5,000.

She defeated Mt. SAC’s Teresa Castillo down the stretch and is an alternate in the event for SoCal. She ran a personal record in the event.

Freshman Olivia Medrano (Schurr HS) placed 11th in the discus finals. She threw a personal record on her final throw.

Medrano placed 10th in the hammer throw. She faced elimination, but came through on her final throw.

Medrano is a SoCal alternate in both events according to Head Coach Milton Browne.

Medrano finished her first year in the shot put with a personal record. She is coached by volunteer coach Ernesto Zuniga.

Freshman Ruth Castanon (South East HS) finished her first ELAC track and field season with a personal record in the Prelims 200 dash.
