Water Polo continues to struggle

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA — The water polo team played in the Chaffey Tournament this past weekend and came away with four losses including a 15-4 loss to South Coast Conference rival Chaffey College.

The Huskies, 1-7 overall, also lost to Fresno City College (3-4), Cypress College (3-6) and to Ventura College (5-4).

East Los Angeles College had its best combined offensive and defensive game of the tournament against host Chaffey.

ELAC had 14 steals against the Panthers, eight from sophomore Yvonne Young (Mark Keppel HS), five from sophomore Brandy Macias (Bell Gardens) and one from freshmen Julia Soto (Garfield HS).

Freshman goalie Krystal Ramirez had four saves against Chaffey with a tournament total of 18. She has a season total 41 saves.

Ramirez had a tournament-high nine saves in a 12-1 loss to Cypress, Young had six steals in the Cypress game and has 23 steals this season.

In a 15-3 loss to Ventura, freshman Alejandra Mendoza (South Gate HS) scored two goals for ELAC. Young slammed in the other Husky goal.

The Huskies knocked in five goals against Fresno, in a 22-5 loss, led by sophomore Brandy Macias’ (Bell Gardens) two goals. She had a game-high three steals against Fresno.

In its first of two consecutive home games, ELAC hosts undefeated Mt. San Antonio College (5-0) in a South Coast Conference game on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 3 p.m. in the Swim Stadium

ELAC will host Rio Hondo College (2-3) in SCC play on Monday Sept. 28 also at 3 p/m.
