Water Polo closes SCC dual meet play

MONTEREY PARK, CA — East Los Angeles College closed South Coast Conference dual meet play with an 11-4 home loss to Cerritos College today in the Swim Stadium.

As a result, ELAC took sixth place in the final SCC dual meet standings and is the No. 6-seed in next week’s SCC Tournament.

Against Cerritos, ELAC had 12 steals, but it was not enough. ELAC trailed the Falcons 7-1 after the first period and did not get closer.

Sophomores Brandy Macias (Bell Gardens High School) and Yvonne Young (Mark Keppel HS) had six and five steals, respectively, for the Huskies. Sophomore Stephanie Perez (Roosevelt HS) had the other.

Cerritos freshman Jenny Parra (Schurr HS) had a career-high six steals for the Falcons.

Freshman Reanna Calvaruzo (Whittier HS) led the ELAC scoring attack with three goals scored.

Calvaruzo’s goals came from assists by Macias, freshman Michelle Delgado (Montebello HS) and freshman Alejandra Mendoza (South Gate HS).

Macias scored the other goal for the Huskies.

Freshman goalie Krystal Ramirez (Montebello HS) had 10 saves for the Huskies

ELAC plays two games on Oct. 30 in the Pasadena City College 13th Annual Mini Water Polo Tournament in a final tune up before the SCC Tournament.

The Huskies will play host Pasadena on Friday at 9 a.m. and then Chaffey College at 1:30 p.m.

The Huskies compete in the SCC Tournament at Cerritos on Nov. 6 in the first round and on Nov. 7 in the championships finals. The winner gets an automatic playoff bid.
