Water Polo falls to Long Beach at home

MONTEREY PARK, CA — The East Los Angeles College water polo team lost a South Coast Conference game, 22-7, to Long Beach City College.

ELAC falls to 0-4 in SCC play while Long Beach remains undefeated at 4-0.

Freshman center Jessenia Barberena (Mark Keppel High School) scored a team-high three goals, the first off an assist from freshman attacker Irene Young (Mark Keppel HS). Barberena’s other two goals were assisted by freshman defender Cynthia Sanchez (Schurr HS).

Sanchez scored an unassisted goal, as did freshman attacker Sophia Gonzalez (Harvard Westlake HS) scored an unassisted goal.

Freshman attacker Elsie Morales (Bell Gardens HS) scored ELAC’s final goal assisted by Gonzalez.

Long Beach freshman center Victoria Johnson scored eight goals for the Vikings, five of them unassisted. Johnson has scored 47 goals this season, third best in the state.

Sophomore goalkeeper Krystal Ramirez (Schurr High school) had 12 saves. Ramirez totals 81 saves this season, a mark ranked in the Top-10 statewide.

The Huskies had eight steals. Gonzalez had a team-high four of them, Morales grabbed three steals and Sanchez recorded one.

The Huskies had eight steals, four from Gonzales, two from Morales and one each from Sanchez and sophomore attacker Julia Soto (Garfield HS).

The Huskies compete in the San Diego Tournament this weekend at San Diego Miramar College, times TBA.
