Over recent years, Women's Wrestling has become the fastest growing women's sport. Within those recent years, East LA College has grown their own women's wrestling club with the hopes that one day soon they will a sanctioned sport.
That day has finally arrived.
The California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) has given the green light for Women's Wrestling to officially compete beginning this spring. ELAC's women's wrestling is now the 17th sport within the department. They begin competition on Saturday, January 28th at the Cerritos College Open.
"We are one of the eight programs in the state to start women's wrestling," says Athletic Director Bobby Godinez.
In many ways, it's appropo that ELAC is able begin competition during the 50th aniversary of Title IX. East LA College President Dr. Alberto J Roman - who also serves as a CCCAA Board member - was instrumental in making sure ELAC's program would be ready this season.
