ELAC women’s cross country runs at CSUF

FULLERTON, CA — The East Los Angeles College women’s cross country freshman Grecia Estrada (Montebello High School) placed in the in the top 10 among community college women in the Cal State Fullerton Titan Invitational.

A community college athlete win the women’s 5-kilometer race, with mostly 4-year university competition, Orange Coast College sophomore Alyssa Allen finished in 17:46.23 minutes.

Estrada finished in 19:58.85 sprinting next to Master’s College freshman Ariana Sciarra in the last 100 meters.

Estrada pulled ahead near the finish line and edged Sciarra by less than a second.

ELAC freshman Ricki Gutierrez finished in 26:55.46.

She edged Riverside City College freshman Alondra Galvan (26:55.52). Both women sprinted neck-and-neck at the finish line. Gutierrez won by six-one-hundreds of a second.

Gutierrez continues to run faster times since the first month of the season—almost three minutes faster. “We work hard each week, the coaches are great,” said Gutierrez. “I just try and improve each week and not worry about who we run with.”

The Huskies ran two meets this season against mostly 4-year university competition.

The coaches are head coach James Maynard and assistant coaches ELAC All-American Megan Magdaleno, Sabrina and Regina Lopez.

ELAC hosts the South Coast Conference Championships on Friday, Oct. 28, with the place and time to be announced.
