Early Turnovers Spoil Renegades Trip To East LA

Monterey Park, CA - The Renegade Football teams visit to East LA was spoiled by four early turnovers that the Huskies converted into 20 first quarter points from which BC never recovered. At the end of the night, Bakersfield would head home with its third consecutive loss after falling to the Huskies, 44-28.

The Renegades responded offensively with points for the first time in the game at the start of the second quarter after putting together a 75 yard, 10 play drive that was capped off by an Isaiah Martin 5 yard touchdown run and a successful PAT attempt by Paxton Winders. Both teams then exchanged touchdowns and went into the break with East LA still up 34-21.

East LA came out to start the third quarter by driving 69 yards in 8 plays to put another touchdown on the board. Bakersfield responded with another touchdown drive capped off by a second Martin touchdown run, his sixth touchdown on the year. East LA would then add a field goal to extend their lead towards the end of the third quarter. The final quarter was scoreless for both teams and the Huskies grabbed their third win of the season while the Renegades drop to 2-6 on the season with two games left on the schedule. 

Bakersfield totaled 325 yards of total offense (229 yards passing and 96 yards rushing) while East LA piled up 349 total yards (204 yards passing and 145 yards rushing). Braden Wingle led BC offensively going 16-30 passing for 179 yards and 1 touchdown with 2 interceptions. Martin led the team rushing with 20 rushes for 96 yards and the two touchdowns. Larry Harrington also added 89 yards rushing while going 2 for 5 passing for 25 yards. Defensively, the Renegades were led by Brandon Dunn grabbing his first and second interceptions in the second and third quarters respectively. Both Zach Hernandez and Brock Mather totaled six tackles each. 

The Renegades will travel to Moorpark this coming Saturday (11/9) for a 6pm kickoff against the Raiders and then end the season at home playing Canyons on Saturday, Nov. 16th.
