Vikings Dominate East Los Angeles College in Conference Action

The No. 16 Long Beach City College football team took down the East Los Angeles College Huskies 33-9 on Saturday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium. With the conference win, the Vikings improve to 4-2 overall and hold a 1-0 record in the National Northern League.

In the first quarter of the game, freshman quarterback Derrach West scored the first touchdown for the Vikings with a seven-yard run in the Huskies' endzone to start the Vikings' lead 7-0. He scored again in the second quarter to hold the shut-out 13-0 at halftime. West was a powerful asset to the Vikings as he totaled 310 yards in the air for the game with his longest being 45 yards.

Sophomore running back Talaun Patton scored the Vikings' third touchdown in the third quarter to extend the lead 20-0. Patton led the team 85 yards on the ground and had an average gain of 5.7 yards per attempt.

In the fourth quarter, the Huskies put themselves on the board with an extra point return. The Vikings then answered back with a final 18-yard touchdown from freshman running back Saeed Galloway. The Huskies had one more in them as they scored in the last two minutes of the game, but the Vikings still finalized the game with the 33-9 conference victory.

The Long Beach City College Vikings will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Bakersfield College at 6 p.m.
