It was a matchup of the state's-leading scoring and undefeated Pasadena City College women's soccer team and an opponent that had scored only one goal in six games--winless 0-5-1 East Los Angeles College. Naturally, statistics were thrown out the proverbial window as the Huskies broke out with 3 consecutive second-half goals and withstood a furious Lancers rally to hand PCC its first loss of the 2019 season, 3-2, Tuesday afternoon.

PCC's 8-match undefeated streak is no more as the Lancers fell to 5-1-3. Down 3-0 with 10 minutes left, the Lancers made it interesting as Kaily Echeverria took a cross from Erica Perez and lined hard low shot into the center of the net for her ninth goal. In the 87th minute, Katy Coats launched a corner kick that Amanda Howard headed into the near corner of the goal that cut the deficit to one.

That ended up being the last scoring chance for Pasadena. 

After a scoreless first half, ELAC took a 1-0 lead on a breakaway with Crystal Gonzalez dropping a pass in the box to Perla Navarro, who drove in the goal in the 50th minute. Navarro would strike again two minutes later on a high drive from the 15-yard line. In the 67th minute, the Huskies made it 3-0 when PCC second goalie Natali Morales tried to field a loose ball inside the box but as an on-rushing Kayla Prado met Morales the ball deflected off Prado right into the Lancers net.

In the first half, PCC starting goalie Alyssa Holt made a solid save to stop Navarro on a breakaway attempt in the 36th minute. Coats twice just missed adding to her state-leading 20 goals total as she drove a close-range shot over the goal in the 29th minute, and later ripped a drive from the 23 yard-line that hit the crossbar in the 39th minute. 

With her assist, Coats extended her points scoring streak to nine games. 

Pasadena hosts Reedley College from Northern California on Friday, Oct. 4 in a 12 noon start at Robinson Stadium.
