Huskies men’s soccer hands No. 7-nationally ranked Rio Hondo its first loss

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. — The East Los Angeles College men’s soccer team ended Rio Hondo College’s eight-game unbeaten streak with a 1-0 win today in the South Coast Conference opener for both teams.

The No. 11-South Region ranked Huskies improved to 3-4-2 overall, 1-0 in SCC play. Rio Hondo (6-1-2, 0-1) lost for the first time this season. The Roadrunners are No. 7 in the United Soccer Coaches Junior College Division III national rankings.

This is the 21st shutout for the Huskies in five years and the second versus Rio Hondo in a year. The Huskies and Roadrunners have played five games in three years and ELAC holds a 3-1-1 edge.

Freshman Paulo Macedo Nahashique (Sao Paolo / Hermelina De Albuquerque State School) scored ELAC’s goal in the 20th minute on an assist from freshman Alexis Arroyo (Maywood Academy High School). Macedo Nahashique is the top scorer for the Huskies.

ELAC plays at No. 16 Pasadena City College (3-3-1) on Friday at Jackie Robinson Stadium at 2 p.m.
