No. 21-ranked East LA College came out fired up and grabbed a 33-28 upset victory over No. 14-ranked Citrus College Saturday afternoon.

The Owls drop to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the National-Central League, while the Huskies improve to 5-3 on the year and 3-2 in conference action.

Citrus finished with 295 total offensive yards, including 142 yards passing and 153 yards rushing.

Jack Benson went 16-for-27 with one touchdown and three interceptions. Kannon Katzer and Tayvonne Miller each had 13 carries, with Katzer scoring two touchdowns and Miller running in one. Jesse Carmona also had a touchdown for the Owls and finished with 47 yards on four receptions.

Defensively, Chandler Carthan finished with 10 tackles, including two for loss and one sack, and also broke up a pass. Hunter Corbin had eight tackles, one breakup, and one quarterback hurry, while Leonard Adams had six tackles, two breakups, and one interception.

East LA scored 17 unanswered points before Citrus could get on the board when Carmona scored a touchdown with just 13 seconds left on the clock before halftime.

The Owls came out of halftime determined to take back the game and scored three unanswered touchdowns to jump in front 28-17 early in the fourth.

The lead didn't last, however, as penalties and mishaps plagued the Owl offense to hand the Huskies the 33-28 result.

Citrus looks to bounce back on the road, heading to Orange Coast College on Saturday for a 6 p.m. contest.
