Over the past month, the offices of East LA College football have entertained a steady influx of four-year coaches visiting campus to evaluate various Huskies for scholarship offers. With reported interest all the way up to NCAA Division-1's "Power Five", approximately one-third of this season's roster have received offers.
On Early National Signing Day yesterday, six Huskies put pen to paper and signed their offers.
-
Terrance Gipson QB 6' 180 - Considered one of the best JUCO quarterbacks in the country, the Huskies starting QB was named to the SCFA NNL First-Team Offense. He signed his early offer with Eastern Illinois University Panthers, an NCAA Division-1 member of the Ohio Valley Conference.
-
Jaylen Martin DB 6'3 195 - A versatile DB who also handled return duties, Martin also saw snaps on offense. He signs with Utah State University Aggies, an NCAA Division-1 member of the Mountain West Conference.
-
Maxwell Iheanachor OL 6'7 305 - One of the big anchors of this season's Huskies offensive line, Iheanachor garnered a lot of interest from the aforementioned "Power Five". He signs on with the Arizona State University Sun Devils, an NCAA Division-1 member of the PAC-12 Conference.
-
Ray Walters III DB 6'2 195 - The Huskies enjoyed a strong pass defense in part thanks to Walters, with his efforts earning him a nod on the SCFA NNL First-Team Defense. He inks with the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos, an NCAA Division-2 member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
-
Quintavius Workman WR 6'6 215 - At 6' 6", Workman provided for a huge target on the field and in end zone for his QB's. He's now a Bearkat, inking his offer with Sam Houston State University, an NCAA Division-1 member of Conference USA.
-
Steven Jimenez DB 5'10 170 - Another member of the Huskies' stingy defensive backfield, Jimenez heads up NoCal to join Lincoln University as an Oaklander. Lincoln is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletics Association, an independent small college grouping that plays competition as high as NCAA Division-1. (Side note: Lincoln last year hired NBA Hall-of-Famer Gary Payton as their men's basketball head coach.)
UP NEXT:
Over 20 Huskies have received offers so far. The coaching staff expects this number to rise as schools continue to evaluate rosters well into spring.
