Mchtchian Plus Men's 4 x 100 Advance to SoCal Regionals

East LA College's Men's Track & Field were able to advance athletes in the 4x100, along with a couple of field contests, to this Saturday's 3C2A SoCal Regional Championship Prelims.

After qualifying last Tuesday in the javelin event, freshman Samuel Mchtchian turned in a solid outing with men's shot put Saturday to move on - his 10.79m toss was good for fifth place (Daniel Chavez of Cerritos claimed first with a 12.66m throw). Head coach Milton Browne feels Mchtchian's performance is just a precursor of things to come. "He did good today," says Browne. "He's going to be really good next year, though."

Joining Mchtchian at the SoCal Regionals will be the men's 4x100 team: while they were DQ'd on Saturday, they still had fast enough race times during the season to qualify for the Regionals. The 4x100 runners include freshmen Darryl AustonJermaine Langford, Jr.Manuel Castrejon and sophomore Jacob Jesus Diaz (freshman Tyler Smith is an alternate).

The SoCal Championship Prelims are set for this Saturday, May 4, at Cerritos College starting at 9am.
