Six Huskies Advance to Saturday for Conference Championships

by Cerwin D Haynes

East LA College Men and Women's Track & Field teams were at El Camino College today for the South Coast Conference Championship Prelims. Head coach Milton Browne knows he has star runner Marbella Flores going for conference gold this Saturday in the Womens 1500m & 5000m. It's now a question of who else can join her in the Finals.

Thankfully, she'll have company:

  • Freshmen Carol Diaz (2:36.99) and Cassidy Quintanar (2:41.86) qualified in the Women's 800m.
  • Freshman Sonny Rodriguez (4:28.11) and sophomore David Garcia (4:31.17) qualified in the Men's 1500m.
  • Freshman Manuel Castrejon (11.20) qualified in the Men's 100m Dash.

Speaking of Flores, she also ran the Women's 800m today and won her heat with a time of 2:19.95. She's .80 away from the overall top time, ran by Mt. SAC's Kahlai Cruser (2:19.15).

  • UPDATE: Freshman Samuel Mchtchian officially notched a 42.10m throw in the Men's Javelin, good for second place. He also qualifies for Saturday's Finals.

UP NEXT:

East LA will be back at El Camino on Saturday, April 27 for the SCC Championship Finals. The aforementioned group will compete for conference supremacy and a chance to move onto the 3C2A SoCal Regionals next month at Cerritos College.
