Huskies Drop Battle with No. 8, El Camino 3-0

MONTEREY PARK, CA – The Huskies volleyball team dropped a hard fought battle to the No. 8 El Camino Warriors 3-0 (18-25, 15-25, and 16-25) Wednesday in the second conference match at the “E”rena.

The Huskies (7-6, 1-1) fell in the first two sets after playing a competitive match with the Warriors (10-2, 2-0). The Huskies were not worried about their two set losses and stepped onto the floor in the third set playing solid blocking defense and transition attack volleyball. Working to sustain the game rhythm, the Huskies put away four kills that kept them in step with the Warriors.

The Huskies found a spark in the third set and nailed 3 big blocks from Mia Madott assited by Alexis Salazar after which followed 2 big cross court attacks from Breanna Trujillo. The Huskies scoring 33 points with the pass, set, attack, and blocking game meticulously picked apart the Warriors who scored 39 points with their offensive attack.The Huskies were lead by Mia Madott with 11 Kills, 8 Digs, 1 Solo Block, and 1 Assist Block. Other contributions for the evening came from Breanna Trujillo with 7 Kills and 8 Digs, Eriazmin Mauries 9 Kills, 5 Digs, and 2 Solo Blocks, and Jessica Nunez who played an excellent defensive game posted 1 Kill, 4 Digs, and 7 effective serves that helped the Huskies to control the Warrior’s offensive attack.Setters Angela Carrasco had 6 Assist and Vanessa Gutierrez had 19 Assists and 10 Digs.

The competitive match helped the Huskies understand the importance of consistent and diligent work at its daily practices. Although the Huskies fell short on the evening, they understand and learned what has to take place to play against a top ranked team. Filled with hope, the Huskies remain positive in its efforts and contemplate on what’s next in order to be among the top three in conference play.

The Huskies continue their quest with the third match of conference play on Friday, October 10th with anaway match at Pasadena City College (0-9, 0-2) at 6PM.
