Baseball Wins Against Seahawks
Monterey Park—After recording a 5-4 upset win against Los Angeles Harbor College on Thursday, the baseball team lost to the Seahawks today, 4-1, to lose its penultimate South Coast Conference series, 2-1.
After posting four hits, the Huskies, 12-21 overall and 6-12 in the SCC, rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning opening with a double from freshman third-baseman Shun Tsunoda (Wilson Hacienda Heights High School).
ELAC freshman designated hitter Jorge Manzo (West Covina HS) singled, scoring Tsunoda (RBI). Sophomore designated hitter Cesar Murillo (San Gabriel HS) ran for Tsunoda.
Later in the inning with Murillo at third and the vocal Husky home crowd making noise, Harbor (17-16, 7-11) freshman and winning pitcher Biagio Schutt (7-2) ended the rally striking out freshman left fielder Brandon Hernandez (South Gate HS).
Hernandez and Tsunoda led the Husky offense, each with two hits. Manzo and Murillo each added one hit.
Harbor freshman third baseman Nico Padovan (San Pedro HS) had four hits including a double and a run batted in.
In the win against the Seahawks in Torrance, the Huskies scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning off of three hits, to stun the home crowd.
Murillo doubled and scored sophomore Samuel Medina (Pico Rivera HS) and freshman Nakoa-Keoni Ibann (Hawaii’s Kamehameha HS).
ELAC sophomore pitcher Gilbert Ramos (Bell HS) closed out the game for the win.
There was one out when Ramos intentionally walked sophomore second baseman Miguel Castaneda (Norwalk HS) with a Seahawk on third base.
Ramos pitched to freshman designated hitter Evan Holmes (Warren HS), with the crowd at its loudest, who hit into a double play. The Huskies and their fans had the win.
In the opening game of the series at ELAC on April 14, Harbor won, 3-1, with seven Seahawks pounding out 10 hits and Schutt striking out seven.
ELAC freshman pitcher George Alamillo (LA Marshall HS) took the loss, striking out five. He is 4-3 for the season.
Medina led the Huskies with two hits. Tsunoda and sophomore centerfielder Kevin Amezquita (Azusa HS) had one hit each.
ELAC will close out the season with an SCC series against El Camino College (21-12, 9-9), April 21 and 24 in Torrance and April 23 in the Huskies’ last home game.
