ELAC baseball splits at home

MONTEREY PARK, CA — The Huskies baseball team lost today 3-1 to No. 9-ranked Riverside City College after holding off Moorpark College 7-6 on Tuesday.

Sandwiched in between the home games, ELAC lost 5-2 at Riverside on Friday.

The Huskies fell to 2-4 overall and host Santa Barbara City College (2-5) on Tuesday Feb. 16.

The Tigers scored a run in the first inning and hit a double and a single. ELAC answered with a rally in the bottom of the second inning.

Freshman third baseman Anthony Mayorga (Chatsworth HS) reached first base on a fielder's choice down the left foul line.

Freshman right fielder Nathan Luna (Riverside North HS) singled up the middle. Freshman catcher Ismael Martinez (Ramona HS) flied out to right field with a RBI sacrifice fly. ELAC scored its only run of the game.

Riverside added two more runs for the two-run win. The Tigers outhit ELAC seven to five. Luna hit two of ELAC’s singles.

Freshman designated hitter Travis Mcfarland (Norco HS) and sophomore shortstop Steve Romo (El Dorado HS) hit doubles for the Huskies.

Freshman center fielder Anthony Bocanegra (Burbank Burroughs HS) added a single.

It was 2-2 after the first inning against Moorpark. ELAC rallied in the fifth inning.

Freshman second baseman Johnny Salgado (Whittier HS) banged a home run. ELAC loaded the bases then sophomore Steve Romo (El Dorado HS) walked for a 3-2 Husky lead.

Sophomore first baseman Larson Anzaldo (St. Paul HS) followed with a 2-RBI single.

ELAC scored five runs in the inning, which was enough to hold off two 2-run inning rallies from Moorpark.

Moorpark has 10 hits, three from catcher Riley Conan who tripled.

ELAC had nine hits, three each by Anzaldo who had two RBIs and Bocanegra. Mcfarland, who had two RBIs, and Martinez singled.

Sophomore Julian Vizcarra (El Rancho HS) was the winning pitcher.

In the 5-2 loss at Riverside, the Tigers scored on run each, in five consecutive innings, the second through the fourth.

ELAC rallied in the top of the ninth, with two runs from two hits, but fell short. Freshman left fielder Kelvin Brito (Miami Beach HS) slammed a ground-rule double to right field and Anzaldo singled up the middle.
