CHULA VISTA, CA — The East Los Angeles College baseball team won an 11-hit, 3-1 victory against Southwestern College to even its trip in San Diego area this weekend.

In other games this week, ELAC lost to Grossmont 6-3 yesterday and to Santa Barbara City College 5-1 last Tuesday at home.

ELAC added another run in the top of the fourth inning off three freshmen singles, an RBI hit from catcher Ismael Martinez (Ramona HS) and one hit each from right fielder Nathan Luna (North HS) and second baseman Zackery Rojo (Northview HS).

Mcfarland hit an RBI double in the top of the seventh inning to increase the Husky lead to 3-0.

In the bottom of the ninth, Southwestern scored a run after a hit and a double. Sophomore pitcher Steve Romo (El Dorado HS) took the mound and followed with three consecutive outs, including two strikeouts, as he recorded the save for the Huskies.

The winning pitcher for the Huskies was freshman Alex Carrillo (West Covina HS) who pitched 5.1 innings.

Against Grossmont, the Huskies opened a 3-1 lead in the top of the third with two runs scored from three hits. Tsunoda singled to right field, Rojo doubled down the left field line and Mcfarland hit an RBI single.

Sophomore first baseman Larson Anzaldo (St. Paul HS) scored the other run for ELAC when he stole home with two outs in the inning.

Grossmont scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to close the door on the Huskies.

Against Santa Barbara, the Huskies outhit the Vaqueros 6-4. Santa Barbara used six pitchers that helped limit the Huskies to one run. ELAC had two errors, Santa Barbara none.

In the bottom of the fourth, Anzaldo hit a single and scored from third base when freshman second baseman Johnny Salgado (Whittier HS) grounded out to Vaquero shortstop Alex Heim for the Huskies only RBI.

Anzaldo singled three times. The other ELAC hits were from Tsunoda, Salgado and Martinez.

The Huskies have a big test as they host No. 12-ranked Glendale Community College on Saturday at 1 p.m. in their only game this week. They also play at Glendale on Tuesday. March 1 at 2 p.m.

Glendale is 4-0 against South Coast Conference opponents this month. An ELAC win will stop that streak.

In its quest to win its second SCC title in three years, ELAC begins a 21-game South Coast Conference schedule on March 8 with a 6 p.m. home contest against El Camino College.
