East Los Angeles College baseball wins 10-0

COMPTON, CA — The East Los Angeles College baseball team defeated El Camino College Compton Center 10-0 and moved 3½ games out of first place in the South Coast Conference.

ELAC, 14-17 overall and 9-7 in the SCC, remained in fourth place in the standings. Other SCC results today left three teams tied for first place, El Camino College (23-8, 12-4), Long Beach City College (20-11, 12-4) and Cerritos College (20-11, 12-4).

Cerritos upset El Camino 8-5 with four runs scored in the ninth inning. Long Beach City won 9-3 at LA Harbor (11-20, 7-9). Harbor is on a five-game losing skid.

On March 15, ELAC found itself tied for sixth place in the SCC with Compton. The Huskies have climbed in up in the standings since. ELAC has won five of seven games in April and two consecutive three-game series against Long Beach City and Mt. San Antonio College. A playoff berth is mathematically possible.

ELAC sophomore shortstop Seve Romo (El Dorado High School) singled in the first inning then Compton pitcher Christian Castillo closed out the inning. ELAC winning sophomore pitcher Julian Vizcarra (El Rancho HS), who pitched 8.2 innings scoreless innings, retired the side in the bottom of the inning.

In the third inning ELAC freshman catcher Ismael Martinez (Ramona HS) walked. Sophomore second baseman Shun Tsunoda (HH Wilson HS) reached first on a Compton error. Romo tripled to center field (2 RBIs). Martinez and Tsunoda each scored unearned.

Sophomore third baseman Ryan Viramontes (West Covina HS) flied out (sacrifice fly) and Romo scored unearned. ELAC led 3-0.

The Huskies added a run in the fifth inning off two singles, one each by Tsunoda and Viramontes for a 4-0 Huskies lead.

In the top of the sixth inning, ELAC sophomore right fielder Mel Robles (St. John Bosco HS) and freshman designated hitter Anthony Mayorga (Chatsworth HS) each singled.

After two outs, first baseman Larson Anzaldo (St. Paul HS) walked (RBI) and Robles scored. Romo walked (RBI) and Mayorga scored. Viramontes homered to left field with four RBIs and ELAC had a 10-0 lead.

The Huskies have two more games in the three-game series with Compton. ELAC hosts the Tartars on Thursday at 6 p.m.
