East Los Angeles College baseball wins series

COMPTON, CA — The East Los Angeles College baseball team won a three-game series against El Camino College Compton Center, but ended came up on the short end of a 2-1 score today in Compton.

ELAC won the series opener at Compton 10-0 on Tuesday and won 6-4 in the Huskies’ only home game of the series on Thursday.

In the one-run loss today, ELAC scored in the top of the third inning. First baseman Larson Anzaldo (St. Paul High School) stole second and eventually home and ELAC led 1-0.

Compton answered with a run in the fourth. After one out, Compton freshman third baseman Jorge Rivas (Gahr HS) singled to right field. Teammate freshman shortstop Miguel Valles (Firebaugh HS) doubled to left field and Compton tied the score at 1-1.

In the bottom of the ninth, Compton scored unearned on two hits and an ELAC error, and ended the pitching duel with a win against the Huskies.

ELAC sophomore pitcher Seve Romo (El Dorado High School) pitched eight innings; scattered five hits and threw five strikes in the loss.

Sophomore shortstop Shun Tsunoda (HH Wilson HS) singled twice for the Huskies and freshman right fielder Nathan Luna (JW North HS) doubled.

In the two-run win at ELAC, Compton scored a run in the first and fourth innings and took a 2-0 lead. ELAC answered in the bottom of the fifth.

Sophomore left fielder Mel Robles (St. John Bosco HS) walked. Freshman right fielder Anthony Mayorga (Chatsworth HS) reached first on a fielder's choice. After two outs, Tsunoda walked; Anzaldo walked to load the bases. Romo singled (two RBIs) and ELAC tied the score, 2-2.

Compton went ahead 4-2 in the top of the seventh and the Huskies tied the score in the bottom of the inning.

After an out, Tsunoda walked. He stole second. After another out, Romo doubled and Tsunoda scored. Sophomore third baseman Ryan Viramontes (West Covina HS) reached first on a Compton error and Romo scored unearned. The game was knotted at four-all.

In the top of the eighth, ELAC freshman pitcher Alberto Lopez (Southeast HS) retired the side.

In the bottom of the eighth, freshman center fielder Kelvin Brito (Miami, Miami Beach HS) singled. After an out, a pitch hit Mayorga. After another out, Tsunoda singled in Brito and Mayorga. The Huskies led 6-4.

Lopez retired the side in the bottom of the eighth, which included one of his five strikeouts.

The Huskies won their first three-game series against Compton since 2014.
