ELAC football team is going bowling

MONTEREY PARK, CA — The East Los Angeles College football team is going bowling after its 30-24 win against rival Glendale Community College yesterday.

The Huskies, the American Metro Champion and 8-2 overall, plays in the Patriotic Bowl at College of the Desert (6-4), the American Mountain Co-Champs, on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m.

ELAC and Desert each return to a bowl game for the first time since 2011.

In 2011, ELAC (8-3) was the American Mountain Champions and won the American Division Conference Championship Bowl game, 42-28, against Santa Monica College (8-3). Also in 2011, Desert (6-5) lost 17-16 to Ventura College (7-4) in the Beach Bowl.

The Huskies defeated rival Glendale Community College 30-24 yesterday to win the American Metro championship.

ELAC had at least a share of the title last week after a 63-17 win against Pasadena City College (4-6). The Huskies are the outright champions with the six-point win versus Glendale in front of a vocal crowd.

First year ELAC Head Football Coach Bobby Godinez and his football staff coached the Huskies to the Metro title in its inaugural season. ELAC was the only Metro team that received a 2016 bowl bid.

In other 2016 bowl games of Southern California American Division teams, LA Valley College (10-0) hosts Southwestern College (9-1) in the American Division Championship Bowl, Antelope Valley College (6-4) hosts Victor Valley College (6-4) in the High Desert Bowl and Moorpark College (5-5) is at Santa Barbara City College (7-3) in the Beach Bowl.

College of the Desert is located at 43500 Monterey Ave, Palm Desert, CA 92260.
