Men’s basketball gets first national letter of intent

MONTEREY PARK, CA — East Los Angeles College men’s basketball sophomore forward Arinze Anakwenze (John Muir High School) signed a scholarship agreement and a National Letter of Intent with Mississippi Valley State University.

He had other offers, but said Mississippi Valley State is his choice, academically and because he felt it was the right fit for him with the basketball team.

“I felt comfortable with the coaching staff, which made a difference with my decision” said Anakwenze.

Anakwenze credits Coach Mosley and the ELAC men’s basketball program for building individual and team skills both on and off the court with academics at the forefront.

A biology major, Anakwenze will continue his education at Mississippi Valley State with a goal of working in the medical field and playing pro basketball overseas.  

At Mississippi Valley State, Anakwenze will join CCCAA 2014-15 All-State Team recipient Marcus Romain, from last year’s ELAC team, the state runner-up.

“I am looking forward to seeing a familiar face,” said Anakwenze.

Anakwenze played in all of ELAC’s 30 games.

Anakwenze had 40 blocked shots, 23rd-best in the state. He connected on 61.3% of his shots and averaged 5.7 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.

Mississippi Valley State is NCAA Division I university from the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
