Huskies defeat Oxnard 99-81

Monterey Park, CA — The state’s No. 6-ranked (Massy Poll) East Los Angeles College men’s basketball team (6-0) defeated Oxnard College 99-81 in the South Gym in a non-conference game.

ELAC, 9-1 overall, led 52-33 at the half. Second half Oxnard (4-4) rallies got them as close as eight and nine points, but ELAC held on for the 18-point win.

All Huskies played and five scored in double figures.

Sophomore guard Izaihaih Sweeny (Compton High School) scored 16 points, sophomore forward Arienze Anakwenze (John Muir HS) added 15 and sophomore forward Richard Bivens (Bakersfield Ridgeview HS) pumped in 13.  

Freshman guard Chandler Redix (Cathedral HS) scored 12 and freshman forward Chima Wami (Santiago HS) added 10.

Wami and freshman forward Zeno Lake (Compton HS) each nabbed seven rebounds. The Huskies had seven blocked shots with Bivens slamming down four.

Sophomore guard Jarrell Tate (Birmingham, Alabama Wenoha HS) led the Huskies in assists with four.

ELAC connected on 57.1% of their shots (40-of-70) and missed 14 free throw attempts while connecting on 17-of-31 from the line.

The Huskies have a big test on Saturday as they travel to No. 11 Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Chaffey (10-4) lost a close 71-65 game to No. 3 Saddleback College Dec. 11 in the championship game of the Riverside Holiday Tournament.
