Strong Team Performance at PCC Invite

Strong Team Performance at PCC Invite

The East LA College Track and Field team got a late jump to Pasadena City College Friday, but it didn't stop head coach Milton Browne's crew from turning in a good overall outing.

For the men, Carlos Deluna led the team with wins in the 110 (16.75) and 400-meter (58.30) hurdles, while Marcus Rivera placed third in the shot put (11.19m, 36' 8.5"). Gerardo Zuniga finished fifth (out of 17) in the men's 800-meter (2:07.00).

On the women's side, the Divecchio twins - Sakura and Kiyoko - finished second (2:34.11) and third (2.36.88) respectively in the 800-meter final. Cynthia Curiel had a nice showing: she finished fifth (out of 15 runners) in the 200-meter final (28.33), and seventh (out of 21 runners) in the 100-meter final (13.67).

Coach Browne was very pleased with many of the results. "Deluna had a great day winning both hurdles, having his season best in the 400," he stated. "Gerardo [also] had a personal best."

He also suggested that Curiel, who had her best finishes of the season thus far, has more to offer down the road. "Cynthia has had to go through injuries, so she's not all the way healthy."

"I feel like the athletes are progressing and the energy is high," observed Coach.
