Huskies Fall Short

EAST LOS ANGELES --- East Los Angles College fell short (6-8) in a South Coast Conference game to El Camino College Compton.

The Huskies haven't lost to the Tartars in over a decade.

Down 3-0 in the top of the third, ELAC rallied off of five hits and a homerun.  That rally gave the Huskies a 6-5 lead heading into the bottom of the 6th inning.

Compton, however, scored a run in the top of the 7th to send the game into extra innings.

The Tartars scored two runs off of two hits in the top of the 9th inning to seal a victory.

The difference in the game was timing of hits. ELAC had 16 hits to Compton's 12, however, the Huskies had 15 left on base while Compton had none.

Both teams played error-free softball with ELAC improving on its four errors per game average.

Freshman first baseman Ashley Day led the Huskies offense with four hits and ELAC's lone home run. Freshman short stop Joslyn Macias added three hits with two runs batted in.

Also adding two double hits each were freshmen third baseman Andrea Rocha and DP (designated hitter for the pitcher) Claudia Zurita (two RBI's).

Adding one hit each for the Huskies were sophomores Larissa Munoz (left infielder) and Cassandra Sarabia (infielder) and Christine Lopez (pitcher) as well as freshman Byanika Diosdado (pitcher)

Lopez (0-1) took the loss. She pitched just over three innings. Compton scored three runs off of Lopez. Diosdado pitched just over five innings allowing seven hits, six runs. Diosdado had two strikeouts.

Sophomore short stop Mallory Wheeler (three hits) and freshman Berenice Beltran led Compton with three hits each.

With the loss, the Huskies are 4-7 overall and 1-4 in the SCC. The win for Compton (9-4, 2-3) leaves them in fourth place in the SCC while ELAC drops to last place.

The Huskies travel to Long Beach City College (4-7, 2-3) in an SCC game on Tuesday, March 3 at 3:00 p.m.
