Huskies Stun El Camino College, 5-3

TORRANCE, Calif.—The softball team has done it again scoring another huge upset road win. The Huskies won, 5-3, at El Camino College, the first place team in the South Coast Conference.

A week ago, East Los Angeles College, 14-18 overall and 8-9 in the SCC, shocked the state’s No. 4-ranked Mt. San Antonio College, 9-8, in Walnut.

As a result, ELAC continues to have a lock on fourth place in the SCC, 1 1/2 games ahead of fifth place El Camino College Compton Center (19-15, 7-11).

The Huskies came out swinging in the top of the first inning to the tune of four hits scoring three runs to stun the crowd of 145.

El Camino fans are not accustomed to losing at home, having won eight consecutive home games this season. The Warriors were upset yesterday at home to Compton, 6-3, which also snapped a five-game El Camino win streak.

ELAC however made the first inning look easy scoring three runs and having sophomore pitcher Byanka Diosdado get three outs after facing four batters.

The Huskies added another run in the top of the second inning off of a sophomore center fielder Larissa Munoz sacrifice fly that scored sophomore Felicia Gonzalez, unearned. Gonzalez had reached third base after a walk and a Warrior error. ELAC led 4-0 after 1 1/2 innings.

After a brief Warrior rally, that brought El Camino closer, down 4-2, the Huskies scored in the top of the sixth inning off of an ELAC second baseman freshman Alizah Mayagoitia single that scored sophomore Cassandra Sarabia. The Huskies led 5-2 after 6 1/2 innings.

After El Camino scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning off an ELAC error, Diosdado shut the door on the Warriors. She struck out the last two Warriors to the loud sounds of the ELAC team and fans.

ELAC will host three games on three consecutive days.

The Huskies will host Compton on April 14 at 3 p.m. and Cerritos the next day.

The game against Cerritos is a continuation of a game played against Cerritos on March 12. The game will resume in the top of the 5th inning with ELAC leading, 2-1.

The Huskies will host Pasadena City College (19-16, 8-10) in the last home game of the season on Thursday April 16 at 5 p.m.
