ELAC softball loses two close games

MONTEREY PARK, CA — The East Los Angeles College softball team lost 12-11 today to Glendale Community College and 6-5 to Golden West College on Tuesday at home as well.

Against Glendale, the Vaqueros led 3-1 after the first inning, 4-2 after the second and 8-7 after the third inning.

ELAC rallied for a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to knot the score at 8-8. In the sixth inning, Glendale scored four runs to the Huskies’ three.

The seventh inning was scoreless and ELAC lost a heartbreaker in front of the Huskies’ largest crowd of the young season.

Three Huskies had two hits each, but it was sophomore shortstop Alizah Mayagoitia’s (Ramona Convent Secondary School) 3-RBI double, which drew the loudest noise of the game.

ELAC sophomore right fielder Kryssann Baltazar (Alhambra HS) hit a two-RBI double and a single as did sophomore catcher Joslyn Macias (Whittier HS). Freshman designated player Julie Munoz (Warren HS) had two hits and two RBIs.

Against Golden West, ELAC had a 3-1 lead after three innings, but the Rustlers rallied for four runs in the top of the 7th inning to seal the victory.

ELAC sophomore first baseman Ashley Day (Alhambra HS) hit the Huskies only double. Mayagoitia and Macias each had two hits. Mayagoitia had four RBIs.

Pounding singles for the Huskies were Munoz, sophomore left fielder Sujey Zamudio (Bell HS) and freshman pitcher Griselda Vasquez (Bell HS), who pitched four innings.

ELAC sophomore pitcher Byanka Diosdado (Schurr HS), who pitched three innings, took the loss. She is 1-4 overall.

The Huskies begin South Coast Conference play next week at Pasadena City College on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

ELAC hosts Mt. San Antonio College (7-0), the state’s No. 11-ranked team, on Thursday Feb. 18 at 5 p.m.
