East Los Angeles College softball wins 20-2

COMPTON, CA — The East Los Angeles College Huskies softball team defeated El Camino College Compton Center 20-2 with a 17-hit attack in a South Coast Conference game today.

The Huskies opened the first inning with six consecutive hits that began with three singles from freshman third baseman Julie Muñoz (Warren HS) and sophomores second baseman Breanna Takenaka (Los Altos HS) and catcher Joslyn Macias (Whittier HS).

The six hits continued with three more singles from freshman right fielder Griselda Vasquez (Bell HS) and sophomores shortstop Alizah Mayagoitia (Ramona Convent HS) and first baseman Ashley Day (Alhambra HS).

 ELAC scored six runs from seven hits with two Compton errors.

In the bottom of the first, Tartar pitcher Olga Pardo reached first from an ELAC error. Compton shortstop Crystal Montalvo tripled to right center and Pardo scored unearned. ELAC led after the first inning 6-1.

The hot hitting continued for the Huskies in the top of the second inning. After Vasquez walked and Mayagoitia reached first base on a fielder's choice to third base, Day hit a two-RBI double to left field.

The Huskies followed with three singles, one each, from sophomore left fielder Alexis Moreno, Muñoz and Takenaka. Along with four errors by Compton, ELAC scored six total runs in the inning and led 12-1 after two.

ELAC added a run in the top of the third while Compton added one in the bottom of the inning. ELAC scored four runs in the top of the fourth and three runs in the top of the fifth for the final 20-2 score.

Muñoz led the Husky hitting with three singles and three RBIs. Adding two hits each were Day (three RBIs), Moreno (two RBIs), Takenaka (one RBI), Mayagoitia and freshman right fielder Alexis Lozaro (Schurr HS).

ELAC freshman Maddie Roberts (Alliance Tennenbaum Family Tech School) hit two singles in just two at-bat appearances.

In previous SCC action, the Huskies lost to Cerritos College, 14-1, on Tuesday in Norwalk at Nancy Kelly Field and at L.A. Harbor City, 3-0, on Thursday Feb. 25.

Huskies pitcher Byanka Diosdado (Schurr HS) homered in the top of the second inning for ELAC's lone score against Cerritos (14-4).
