Huskies softball team wins two of three

MONTEREY PARK, CA — The Huskies softball team upset Mt. San Jacinto College 3-2 today, defeated El Camino-Compton Center 10-0 in five innings on Tuesday and had its four-game win streak stopped in a 5-3 loss at Long Beach City College yesterday.

Against San Jacinto (19-14), the Huskies were down 2-0 after the top of the first inning. ELAC rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fourth.

ELAC sophomore pitcher Byanka Diosdado (Schurr HS) pitched four scoreless innings, the fourth through the seventh, with two strikeouts for the Huskies win.

Mt. San Jacinto outhit ELAC 5-4. ELAC shortstop Alizah Mayagoitia (Ramona Convent High School) singled with an RBI for the Huskies.

Three Huskies also singled, left fielder Sujey Zamudio (Bell HS), right fielder Alexis Lozaro (Schurr HS) and first baseman Ashley Day.

In South Coast Conference play, the Huskies defeated Compton 10-0 with runs scored in each of the first four innings. ELAC scored two runs in the first, followed by one, three and four runs, respectively, in the second through fourth innings.

Diosdado and third baseman Maddie Roberts each doubled with an RBI. Diosdado pitched all five innings and recorded six strikeouts in the in.

Lozaro and catcher Joslyn Macias (Whittier HS) each singled twice for the Huskies. Teammate and designated pitcher Julie Munoz singled in two RBIs. Mayagoitia also singled.

No stats are yet available for the Husky two-run loss at No. 10 Long Beach.

ELAC has two SCC games this week, at Pasadena City (17-14, 7-7) at Robinson Park at 2 p.m. and a home game vs. No. 4 Mt. SAC (23-3, 11-2) on Thursday, April 7 at 3 p.m.
