East Los Angeles College softball wins 23-0

COMPTON, CA — The East Los Angeles College Huskies softball team defeated El Camino College Compton Center 23-0 in a five-inning (mercy rule), 18-hit attack South Coast Conference game today.

The Huskies scored two runs in the top of the first inning from three hits. Sophomore shortstop Alizah Mayagoitia (Ramona Convent HS) singled and reached second on a Compton error. She scored unearned when freshman center fielder Alexis Lazaro (Schurr HS) grounded out (RBI).

Freshmen catcher Joslyn Macias (California HS) and right fielder Griselda Vasquez (Bell HS) each singled and the Huskies led 2-0 entering the bottom half of the inning.

Winning pitcher sophomore Byanka Diosdado (Schurr HS) then retired the side and threw two strikes.

The Huskies added five runs in the second from three hits and two Compton errors. Freshman Julie Muñoz (Warren HS) singled to left field. After two outs, Mayagoitia reached first on a Compton error. Lazaro walked. Macias doubled to left field (two RBIs) for a 4-0 ELAC lead.

After a pitch hit sophomore first baseman Ashley Day (Alhambra HS), Vasquez singled to left center. After a Compton error, ELAC scored three runs unearned and led 7-0.

Diosdado retired the side in the bottom of the second with three strikes.

In the top of the third, sophomore left fielder Sujey Zamudio (Bell HS) and Macias each singled. Combined with two Compton errors, ELAC scored one run and led 8-0 going into the bottom of the inning. Diosdado retired the side and threw two strikes.

In the top of the fourth, the Huskies’ bats erupted for 10 hits, a season-high for hits in one inning. ELAC a scored 15 runs, a season-high for runs scored in one inning.

The Huskies opened the fourth with four-consecutive singles from Vasquez, Diosdado, Muñoz and freshman third baseman Madalyn “Maddie” Roberts (Alliance Tennenbaum Family Tech HS), which led to a 10-0 ELAC lead.

A Compton error enabled Zamudio to reach first; Muñoz scored unearned for an 11-0 ELAC lead. Mayagoitia singled to right field. Lazaro reached first on a Compton error, which added an unearned run. Macias singled to left field (RBI) and ELAC led 13-0.

The next three ELAC batters—Day, Vasquez and Diosdado—each reached first on three Compton errors. ELAC scored three unearned runs. It was 16-0 ELAC.

With the bases still loaded, Muñoz walked and the Huskies led 17-0. Roberts singled to right field (RBI) then Zamudio doubled to left field (2 RBIs) and it was 20-0. The Huskies followed with singles from Mayagoitia, Lazaro and freshman Katryna Castaneda (Paramount HS).

In the bottom of the fourth, Diosdado opened with two quick strikeouts. The Tartars’ offense followed with two-consecutive singles from shortstop Tyler Moran and pitcher Crystal Montalvo. Diosdado followed with a strike to end the Compton scoring threat.

Montalvo pitched her best inning in the top of the fifth. She walked Diosdado and then retired the side.

Diosdado retired the side in the bottom of the fifth with three straight strikeouts. She totaled 13 strikes.
