Down 7-2, ELAC Softball Team Wins 15-7
COMPTON, CA — Down 7-2 and the Compton College home side making noise, the East Los Angeles College softball team rallied with 13 runs for an amazing comeback win 15-7.
With two outs in the top of the sixth inning and four outs away from ELAC’s first loss to Compton since the 2014-15 season, ELAC sophomores doubled twice, tripled, hit a home run and singled four times.
Left fielder Dominique De Alba (Bell Gardens High School) homered inside the park (3 runs batted in), sophomore catcher Destiny Avena (St. Paul HS) tripled (2 RBIs) and two Husky sophomores doubled, third baseman Julie Granadeno (LA Marshall HS) and sophomore center fielder Mone't Manning (Northview HS), each with an RBI.
The Huskies rallied for eight runs in the sixth and led 11-7. It was an all-muscle inning for ELAC because Compton played error free softball in the sixth. ELAC continued the fireworks with four runs in the top of the seventh.
Sophomore short stop Angelina Gonzales (Gabrielino HS) singled to left center. De Alba bunted safely for a single. After an out, Granadeno doubled to left center (2 RBIs). Manning singled to right field (RBI). Sophomore designated hitter Samantha Alvarado (Edgewood HS) flied out to center field for a sacrifice fly (RBI) an ELAC’s final score.

Freshman Miya Legaspi (Glendale HS) was the winning pitcher. She pitched the final 3.2 innings and struck out two. Compton scattered three hits with Legaspi on the mound. Freshman pitcher Majisty Shomo (Alhambra / Century High School) pitched the first 3.1 frames. She gave up seven hits and struck out two.
Manning led the Husky slam fest with a perfect four-for-four at the plate. She homered in the fifth inning, smacked a double, singled twice and finished with a game-high four RBIs. De Alba homered, singled twice and had three RBIs. Granadeno doubled twice and brought in three RBIs. Gonzales doubled and singled three times.
Two Huskies added two RBIs each. Alvarado singled and had an RBI sacrifice and Avena’s triple included two RBIs.
Sophomore first baseman Jessica Hernandez (South El Monte HS) tripled, singled and had a sacrifice fly. Sophomore right fielder Emily Sanchez (Schurr HS) singled twice.
When all was said and done, ELAC out-hit Compton 20 to 10 with their season best output on offense. Compton center fielder freshman Ray-Ann Rudon led the Tartars with three RBIs from a triple and a double.
ELAC (2-0) continues play in the Mt. San Jacinto College President's Day Tournament with two games against ranked teams tomorrow and two games on Saturday.
