Huskies' Terry Signed to Pioneers of Antelope Valley

East Los Angeles College guard Ryan Terry has just signed her scholarship offer from the University of Antelope Valley to play for the Pioneers next season. She'll be joining a program that dominated the California Pacific Conference this past season: the Pioneers (24-4, 14-1) not only bested the conference regular season, but also won the postseason conference tournament and were on their way to the NAIA DII championships when play was halted in March due to COVID-19.

This success was a huge selling point for Terry. "The success the Lady Pioneers have accomplished, being in that atmosphere will continue to evolve my game," says Terry. "I'm excited to play next year because I can continue to improve my individual skills and assist [their] ongoing success."

The 5' 7" product out of Cleveland High was an impact contributor for this past season's Huskies' squad. In 20 games (11 as a starter), she averaged 11.8 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. She was also the team's second-best marksman from behind the arc, connecting on almost 36% (35.8) of her three-point shots at 5.3 attempts per game. "Ryan is an outstanding three point shooter, a very good rebounder," remarked Huskies head coach Bruce Turner. 

Terry will take many important lessons learned at ELAC with her as she continues her journey. Among the most important: "What I learned from attending ELAC is what you put in, is what you will get out. Meaning if you work hard and give 100% everytime good things will happen." Coach Turner thinks said lesson will continue to grow with the transferring sophomore, stating that she is, "an excellent student - she will do well at UAV."

Turner also notes that Lady Pioneers head coach Deon Price employs a playing style that, "matches what we do here at East LA College". Terry was an important cog in that style: "Defend•Rebound•Run" as stated on the Huskies' Instagram. It's that play style that led ELAC to another playoff appearance this past season, and also afforded Terry one of her fondest memories in ELAC green. "My favorite memory is when our team traveled to San Francisco and won the Golden Gate Classic," says Terry. "It was my first time going to San Francisco." 

It was also the first time the Huskies beat host team City College of San Francisco in the December tournament as well, as they won the Classic for the second time.

Terry will pursue a bachelors degree in business at UAV, and she has an ever bigger goal. "My dream is to play professional basketball," she states.

The ELAC community appreciates her contributions to the Huskies' program, and wishes her well as she strives for her degree and her dream.
