ELAC Swim splits two, gets another record
MONTEREY PARK, CA — The East Los Angeles College Swim & Dive team split two South Coast Conference meets today and broke the 1-meter dive record, its second school record in a week.
For the third time this season, ELAC freshman Kristine Ordonez owns the school record in the 1-meter dive event with her first place finish with 165.40 points. She competed unopposed.
Ordonez began the season with a school record in the event when she took third place in the season-opening Mt. San Antonio College Invite against statewide competition. She scored 163.35 points, which broke the previous school record held by Daisy Gomez. Ordonez tied the record (163.35 ) when she placed second at the Chaffey College Invitational on March 10.
ELAC won first place in two other events today, the 400-yard freestyle relay and freshman Sophia Gonzalez’s win in the 500-yard freestyle, fresh off her record-breaking performance in last week’s 1000-yard free win.
ELAC’s three first-place nods helped the Huskies defeat Cerritos College 153-106. Swim & Dive powerhouse Pasadena City College (6-1) outscored ELAC 132-118. The Huskies swam without one of their top swimmers, sophomore Irene Young.
The ELAC “A” team, which won the 400-free relay included freshmen Karen Barrera, Justine Salcedo, Jessenia Barberena and Gonzalez. Barrera built a 14 second lead after the first leg, and each Husky leg built on their lead for the first-place win.
The ELAC “A” team won second place in the 200-free relay, which included freshmen Barberena on the first leg, Elsie Morales, Barrera and Crystal Rubalcava on the last leg.
The Huskies (4-2) host their final dual meet of the season against Mt. SAC (7-0) and Long Beach (4-2) on Friday, March 31 at 12:30 p.m. ELAC will host the SCC Championships on Thursday through Saturday, April 22.
