Another Hot Start for ELAC Women's Volleyball Earns State Top-25 Landing

by Cerwin D Haynes

Last season, East LA College's women's volleyball raced out to their best start under head coach Dr. Eliott Walker. They opened 7-1 before the rigors of conference play slowed down a team lead by mostly freshmen who were new to collegiate competition.

This season, the ladies of the net are off to another fast start, winning five of the first six matches which includes going 3-1 in this past weekend's LA Mission Tournament. Their play has earned them a State Top-25 ranking, sharing the #25 slot with Sacramento City and Rio Hondo. It's one in only a few instances in recent years that the squad has made the State list.

Head Coach Dr. Elliott Walker is thrilled with the ranking, but knows it's still early in the season.

"We gotta keep working," says Dr. Walker. "It won't mean a thing come conference play".

ELAC has a three-way coming up tomorrow on campus against West Hills-Lemoore and Chaffey. Then on Friday they'll head out to Santa Monica College to play two in a quad matchup. South Coast Conference plays begins next Monday September 11 when the Pack visit conference and prgram newcomer LA City College.
